The Initial Consultation
This is the most important consultation for you. You will be asked to fill in a
comprehensive health questionnaire before beginning your initial consultation. So please leave an extra 5-10 minutes before your appointment time.
Your chiropractor will then take a full health history, including questions about the reason for your visit (or your primary health complaint), plus other questions regarding your overall health and health goals. She will then explain a little about how chiropractic works and what it is all about.
You will then be given a physical examination, which provides the chiropractor with information about your nervous system function and where there is dis-ease or stress in your body. This includes comprehensive muscle, orthopedic and neurological tests. At Total Chiropractic we use the advanced system of Applied Kinesiology (AK) as well as numerous other chiropractic techniques to help us with our diagnosis of structural, biochemical and/or emotional dis-ease in the body.
Most clients are referred for a full spinal x-ray, which gives us further information about your structural integrity before we adjust your spine. This tells us whether there is any bony pathology, congenital abnormalities, arthritis or degeneration, centre of gravity, or specific misalignments or subluxations that are important for further treatment to be specific and safe.
All of these elements are important components of your total health profile.
Report of Findings visit (second appointment)
Your second appointment (if you required x-rays) is just as important as the
initial consultation. This is when your whole health profile is assembled and explained to you. Your chiropractor at Total Chiropractic will also tell you if and how chiropractic can assist you.
She will explain your x-rays to you in detail so you also understand what is happening in your body and discuss recommendations for you to achieve your health goals most effectively. You will also be given a folder with further information about chiropractic care and our policies at Total Chiropractic. And after all of your questions have been answered; you will have your first chiropractic adjustment. We suggest that you keep your folder so you can add any extra information that your chiropractor may give you in subsequent consultations, such as exercise sheets or information sheets.
Standard Consultations
After the first and second consultations have been completed, the following consultations are shorter in duration (usually 10-20 minutes) to proceed with your chiropractic treatment program. At Total Chiropractic, we also have 30-minute consultations available for re-examinaations, and if a longer appointment is needed or requested for other reasons.
We hope you enjoy your journey to optimal health!
