Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)

‘The Neuro Emotional Technique® (NET) is a methodology used to normalize unresolved physical and/or behavioral patterns in the body. NET practitioners are trained to assist the body’s healing process by identifying and balancing unresolved emotional influences—it’s a mind-body approach’ (www.netmindbody.com).

Dr Scott Walker is a chiropractor who developed NET 20 years ago. Over the last 20 years there has been many case studies and research to show the efficiency of NET removing stress to the nervous system. This research is being conducted and sponsored by the ONE Research Foundation. NET uses neuro-mechanisms of speech, general semantics, emotions, acupuncture and chiropractic principles, meridian laws, cutaneous reflex points, psychology principles and more to release recurrent patterns in the body.

NET is based on the compulsive repetitious patterns humans can sometimes have in certain situations. Emotions are normal and can pose no neurophysiological problem unless there is the ‘presence of a neurological or meridian deficit (which) can cause a physiopathological-related pattern in the body’ which may not resolve itself. ‘NET seeks to normalize this pattern by physiological change; a result of a physical intervention.’ (www.netmindbody.com). Therefore, NET does not treat emotions nor is a form of psychotherapy, rather it addresses the mind-body component when there is a stuck or fixed emotion called a Neuro Emotional Complex (NEC). Instead it treats physiological dysfunction.
‘Before the discovery of neuropeptides by Candice Pert (now known to carry emotion throughout the body), emotions were considered to be largely in the domain of psychology. Now emotions are also considered within the domain of acupuncturists, chiropractors, medical doctors and other vitalistic practitioners of the healing arts. NET is used by psychotherapists and health care practitioners of all disciplines in tandem with their other techniques to quickly enhance their patients’ results’ (www.netmindbody.com).

Through the NET procedure, a NEC is identified through muscle testing, and then taken back to the original time that this pattern took place, by retriggering a reflex emotional pattern in the body. This is partially based on Ivan Pavlov’s Dog discovery (in the late 1800’s) which was that a learned response, called a conditioned reflex, is process whereby dogs or humans learn to connect a stimulus to a reflex (conditioning), when environmental events that previously had no relation to a given reflex (such as a bell sound) could, through experience, trigger a physiological reflex (salivation) in the body. Once the NEC has been identified the chiropractor (or other qualified NET practitioner), will physically correct the physiology associated with that original event. It is a quick and easy process with great results for the whole person. The results are a person with less interference to their nervous system and generally healthier. The person will often report of more profound changes for them emotionally and how they cope with certain situations that previously caused them stress.
As a chiropractor, NET is a chiropractic technique to adjust and correct vertebral subluxations, in order to reduce stress to the nervous system so it can function optimally. Subluxations can affect emotional states, biochemistry, and structure. Often in a recurrent problem or subluxation there a NEC which when released the subluxation will resolve reducing stress to the whole body.
